A review of British Airways 787-7 and 787-9 Dreamliner Business Class

The 787-8 three-cabin aircraft and the 787-9 opens doors to an unrivaled business-class flying experience with their “Club World” transatlantic flights.

British Airways Business Class Options

Lounge

There is a dedicated check-in area for Club World passengers and also for their Executive Club Bronze and Silver members. The lounge floor features a large seating area and offers a nice view of the runway. Breakfast offered an extensive selection of buffet items that include pastries, spicy seasoned cod roe, and grilled mackerel.

Seats

The 787-9 Dreamliner has 42 Business Class seats across two cabins. The Club World earlier meant a 2-3-2 seating arrangement. Seats were arranged in forwarding/backward pairs and were rather packed densely which means everyone except the bulkhead row would have to step over another passenger to get out.

British airway has gotten over this issue with the new 4-2-2 arrangement. It’s a balance of those who want privacy can take the window or the aisle seat and the middle seats open up to each other are left to those who are traveling together including couple and families. The seats have an architecture that would protect your head and feet from the knocks of other passengers.

Lack of all access aisle is a major drawback, however, there are plans to new Club World seats. Seats have button-activated opaque divider screens which can be raised for full privacy.

The seat is 20.5 inches (52cm) in width and can stretch into a 6 feet long bed. The footrest can be titled for comfort and can be used as an extension for the flatbed. For red-eye flights, passengers are provided with sets of soft padded under-sheets, blankets, and soft, squishy cotton pillows.

Universal power outlet and USB are at the bottom with a retractable stowage tray which is the only option to store your items.

In-Flight Entertainment (IFE)

Screens can get into position easily and quickly and deploys out of the same wall from where the tray can be pulled. The screen can be tilted downwards as well to an extent to adjust as per comfort ability. It offers a wide selection of movies, BBC News and a whole lot of TV shows.

Amenity Kit

Included all the regular items like an eye mask, lip balm, moisturizer, earplugs, dental care, and Elemis goodies. Compare this with the amenity kit offered by Delta is by Tumi and even a scaled-down Malaysia Airlines provides a Porsche Design amenity, Elemis is hardly a thing to talk about.

An Exhaustive Menu

There is a selection of starters that include Hickory smoked shrimps with lentils, Mini Mediterranean veggies with Bijou goat’s cheese, fresh seasonal salads. Mains include roasted fillet of beef with creamy spinach risotto, roasted baby vegetables, and roasted pepper, Tomato basil, and mozzarella ravioli with sautéed spinach. Dessert includes a choice of triple mousse cakes, Bucheron, and prairie breeze cheddar cheese with farmhouse chutney, etc. There is a traditional English breakfast as well.
The Bar includes complimentary service that includes Aperitifs and spirits like Gordon’s Gin, Johnnie Walker Black and Jack Daniel’s, Liqueurs and Digest includes Cointreau, Glenlivet master distiller’s reserve, Graham’s six grapes port apart from beer, and soft drinks.
